Practices
Four practices, one discipline
The same design discipline applies wherever climate delivery needs finance and evidence to work together: a structure that can be financed, delivery that can be evidenced, and value that stays with the people who produce it.

01 · Nature and adaptation
Land, oceans, water and the communities they sustain
Coastal protection, flood management, water security, soil health and productive landscapes, financed so that money reaches smallholders, coastal communities and local enterprises. Carbon is one asset among several: biodiversity, soil, water and blue-carbon outcomes are natural capital too, owned by the nations and communities that produce them.
Participation often costs money before it earns any. Inputs, equipment and seasonal working capital are part of the design, so that programme funding becomes local delivery.
- Programmes
- Protected areas and marine stewardship, regenerative farming, agroforestry, catchments and wetlands, coastal resilience
- Instruments that often fit
- Stewardship-unit bonds, outcome-linked notes, programme funds with a value-chain sleeve, sovereign notes
- Evidence it needs
- Baselines and monitoring that fit the outcome and the ecosystem, protection verified area by area, independent verification
02 · Energy and transition
Generation that has to be built, and industry that has to change
National and regional renewables roll-outs designed with public bodies, on-site or grid-connected generation for industrial and mining operations, and transition finance for hard-to-abate industry.
Financing can combine public, private and development capital where the basis for repayment is clear. The structure has to settle currency and hedging, the security package, tenor against the power purchase agreements, and the role of development banks.
- Programmes
- Utility-scale and distributed renewables, storage, industrial decarbonisation, power for mines and processing
- Instruments that often fit
- Renewable and transition infrastructure debt, sub-sovereign programme platforms
- Evidence it needs
- Generation data, emissions avoided against a stated baseline, environmental covenant reporting
03 · Critical minerals
Minerals judged on how they are produced
The transition depends on minerals that have to be mined, and buyers and lenders increasingly ask how they were produced. We design climate-aligned governance frameworks for mining operations and their host governments, connecting environmental performance, water and land stewardship and community arrangements with verified emissions data.
Work can cover the decarbonisation plan for an operation and its power supply, the evidence base for product emissions and provenance, the arrangements with communities and public bodies, and blended or transition capital around them. Operating decisions stay with the operator.
- Programmes
- Mine and processing decarbonisation, power supply for operations, community and host-government arrangements
- Instruments that often fit
- Transition debt, blended capital with development-bank participation, outcome-linked terms
- Evidence it needs
- Product emissions, provenance records, water and land indicators, independent verification
04 · Goods and trade
Data that travels with the product
Carbon border measures, including the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and buyers' own requirements mean that the emissions and origin of a product now travel with it. Exporters, importers and the programmes behind them need embedded-emissions data that can be measured, verified and reported.
We design the measurement, verification and reporting chain around traded goods, connect it with supplier traceability, and consider trade and working-capital finance alongside it. Records designed once can serve a border declaration, a buyer's requirements, a financing condition and public reporting.
- Programmes
- Export supply chains, producer groups, processors and traders preparing for carbon border rules
- Instruments that often fit
- Trade and working-capital finance, supply-chain finance, programme funds
- Evidence it needs
- Embedded emissions, provenance and supplier traceability records, verified to the standard the rules require
